Hi…..

We are Carol & Paul Pfister….Welcome to Whirlybird Alpacas

We have a small farm in north-central New Jersey where we have raised horses, sheep, goats as well as human kids. The kids are grown and Carol was becoming restless for a new adventure, mindful that she needed to maintain farmland assessment on the property. As a vet tech working for equine/alpaca vets she kept hearing about these fuzzy, cute investment animals called alpacas. She went on a few farm calls and became intrigued. Spent a day at an alpaca farm nearby and became hooked, this was the new adventure she was searching for…What's not to love- easier than horses on the pasture, smarter than sheep and quieter than goats (not to mention get into a lot less mischief). And she didn't have to send them to market! What really clinched the deal for Carol were the wonderful people she was meeting that had chosen to make alpacas their future.

At the time Carol, with the help of her son, Tyler, was embarking on her new adventure, her husband Paul decided to fulfill a lifelong dream of building a helicopter and becoming a rated helicopter pilot. The name Whirlybird Alpacas represents both of their passions. You can see more about the helicopter Paul built at www.rotorway.com on the web.

The alpaca solution to the farmland issue has been a great experience for us and a decision we're glad we made; easy livestock, wonderful fiber, great investment, good tax benefits, and not least of all the people you meet. November 2003 marked our first anniversary. We have grown from 4 alpacas to 12 with 2 guard llamas. We are proof positive you don't need a large budget to start your new life with alpacas. We have reduced the goat herd and gradually new sheds and fencing are springing up in the fields. Give us a call. We love talking alpaca.
